Expressing gratitude is very powerful, a universal phenomenon to give thanks for all we have and to surround ourselves with family and friends at Thanksgiving. At The Fountains at Sea Bluffs, we hosted 21 Camp Pendleton Marines for Thanksgiving! These young men were not able to travel home for the holiday, so the Home Hospitality program offers them an opportunity to share Thanksgiving dinner with our family.
The Marines were welcomed by HOA President Gene Flath and then treated by a Omelet Station with sides of bacon, sausage, and potatoes and every kind of toast you could think of, wheat, white, rye, sourdough, bagels and English muffins, as well as coffee and juices.
They were able to charge their cell phones and make calls to home and loved ones that they dearly missed. Later they changed into civilian clothes and some decided to change into shorts provided by The Fountains and jump into the pool, while others wanted to sit in the Jacuzzi. Some of the marines watched football, others played a game of billiards and used the Wii, while some just curled up by the fire on the couch and chairs and took a nap after all that food. A few marines set up the Christmas tree and put up decorations. Lunch time was a build your own nacho bar with chips and sodas as well. Plenty of snacks!
For dinner they were our guests and seated with our residents. They were welcomed and made to feel at home while they were here. It was a day to celebrate and an experience that speaks to your heart, a tradition that will go on year after year.
